Vacationland is the slogan, but a dead lobster
what's on this controversial license plate
from Maine.
Lobstering is an important
industry in Maine. Boats catch tons of
large,
clawed lobsters.
In the ocean, "live" lobsters have a greenish-blue
color.
The red lobster on this license
plate is the color of a boiled lobster, about to be served on a "dinner" plate.
So Maine is the only state
to have a
dead animal on it's license plate. (Not including the
occasional "deer in the headlights".)
Some folks had no appetite for promoting
boiled lobster plates. They complained and
Maine replaced the lobster with a bird.
