RIP (Rest In Peace). Likely this is the final New Hampshire license plate to show the
"Old Man in the Mountain", nicknamed Great Stone Face.
Old Man was discovered 200 years ago on a rock formation,
1200 feet high. His gaze was watchful and vigilant.
People loved Great Stone Face and his manly-man features.
Women swooned at his Mother-Nature-chiseled magnificence.
Tragically, Old Man crumbled to his death, sliding off the mountain
in 2003. Gravity finally did him in. He is sadly missed, but not forgotten.
Daniel Webster immortalized Great Stone Face with this verse:
"Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades;
shoemakers hang out a gigantic shoe;
jewelers a monster watch,
and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth;
but in the mountains of New Hampshire,
God Almighty has hung out a sign to
show that there He makes men."
Well said Daniel.
This license plate includes the bold
"Live Free or Die" slogan.
