Michael is a talented artist with roots in license plates that go way back.  His grandfather was an avid license plate collector.  While traveling across the country, he collected license plates to remember his journeys.  "He especially enjoyed gathering a rare plate or just a plate that really spoke to him personally", says Michael.   When Michael's grandfather passed away in 1996, his grandmother gave Michael his grandfather's collection of license plates.

In Michael's words...

 "I wanted to do something really special with my grandfather's plates and came up with the license plate map.

I have always been into crafts and enjoyed refinishing old furniture for years. Hand painting, distressing, mosaic tops, etc... I have worked with all kinds of arts - Wood, metal, glass... When I made the first map from my grandfather's plates, everyone I knew starting saying they wanted one. I've been making them ever since."

 

"The special thing about the maps that I personally like is that they are a true cross section of American History. Some of the plates are newer, some are 40 or 50 years old. The map gives you that history in a really great, unique way."
