Who Collects Plates?
Young and old alike, enjoy collecting License Plates. Children
and teenagers seem to prefer collecting the colorful variety of modern
graphic plates. Parents and Grandparents often collect older
style plates, which are plainer in design. There is something simple
and sentimental about those older style plates! Many schools and youth groups have ordered
License
Plates from us, to decorate a room, while teaching at the same time. License Plate collecting
is a great way to help kids learn
geography. A full set of License Plates makes a stunning,
interesting display for any
classroom, garage or business. See
pictures of some collector's plates.
License Plates are great Souvenirs and Decorations
Many of our customers are travelers, either from the USA or
overseas. Some people like to collect a License Plate
from each state they visited. What a great way to
remember a fun Florida or Hawaii vacation! We also have sold
thousands of License Plates to retail stores, automotive and
insurance businesses, event planners, restaurants and hotels that
want to decorate their walls and windows with colorful, eye-catching
sets of real License Plates. We have even provided genuine
License Plates to movie producers, so cars that in their
films seem to be in a certain state.
What are License Plates used for?
License Plates or 'tags', as some
states call them, are 12 inches wide by 6 inches tall metal
plates, with numbers and letters printed or embossed onto the
plates. This standard plate size is required by USA federal law.
Every state in the United States requires License Plates to be attached
to motorized vehicles that travel on public
roadways. License plates are used by the state governments to
collect vehicle taxes and are used by police to uniquely identify and track vehicles.
Most License Plates today are made of aluminum or steel and some
plates weigh over half a pound! Texas, Nebraska and Maryland are
some of the
states with very heavy License Plates.
The Quest
Most License Plate collectors start out with a few plates and
proceed on a quest to obtain a complete set of one License Plate
from each of the 50 states. What often begins as a casual
collection of a few different states, can turn into a full
fledged quest to get the few missing states added to a License Plate collection.
PlatesUSA has been helping collectors expand their collection of
License plates since 1996. We hope we can help you add a few
plates to your collection!
